Improved Adsorption Capacity of EDTA-type Chitosan for Separation of Rare Earths

By optimizing the raw material ratio for preparation of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid-type chitosan (EDTA-type chitosan), extraction efficiency rare earth elements was improved. The synthesis with a lower concentration to acetic acid than that in previously reported method confirmed by IR spectra peak assigned as carboxyl group EDTA drastically decreased and amide bond reaction between more facilitated. In this work, formation preferable competitive acetylation chitosan. conditions, adsorption capacities Nd, Sm, Tb, Dy were improved about twice. On contrary, separation factor earths not changed, it is suggested other compounds having ability produced. EDTA-type applied chromatographic La, Dy. column method, lighter sequentially eluted from column, therefore has been proved substituted heavier earth.
